Payday 3 – Game Review

Payday 3, the highly anticipated next installment of the “bank heist” game franchise from Overkill Software, was officially introduced earlier this year. With a six-year wait and a complete change in the underlying game engine, Payday 3 brings significant improvements and a more comprehensive bank heist experience.

One notable improvement is the role of hostages in Payday 3. They are no longer just “goods” to be exchanged with the police when a teammate is captured. Hostages can now also serve as mobile shields, reducing the frequency of enemy gunfire, or players can choose to release hostages in exchange for health items. This provides more flexibility and variety in gameplay.

Overkill Software has also aimed to create faster-paced heist missions in Payday 3. This can be seen in the quicker lock-picking of doors and safes, which now only takes around 5 seconds. This adds a sense of excitement and tension as players must perform quick and skillful actions to achieve their objectives.

In terms of shooting mechanics, Payday 3 introduces a notable change. Players can now “cook” grenades, holding them for a few seconds after arming them to ensure they explode upon impact with the target. This change accommodates the smarter AI enemies in Payday 3, who quickly react and flee when they see players throwing grenades.

The AI teammate system in Payday 3 has also been improved, especially during the latter half of missions. Teammates will start dropping supply bags containing armor and ammunition for players to use. This not only provides valuable support but also enhances the sense of camaraderie and facilitates smoother gameplay.

Payday 3 aims to deliver a more diverse and immersive stealth experience. In addition to improving shooting mechanics and AI teammates, Payday 3 introduces new elements to enrich the gameplay. The “Overkill” system allows players to summon heavy-grade weapons to deal with powerful enemies. The mission selection system has also been streamlined and optimized, allowing players to choose missions and difficulty levels without additional costs.

However, Payday 3 still has some room for improvement. While it provides a good bank heist experience, Overkill Software needs to create more varied and engaging missions to prevent players from feeling bored after extended playtime. Adding new missions and more diverse elements will enhance the game’s replayability and overall excitement.

Overall, Payday 3 is a notable step forward in this renowned bank heist game series. With significant improvements and a diverse stealth experience, Payday 3 promises to provide players with enjoyable and captivating moments in the world of bank heists.
